The courtyard went quiet. Ask why you didn't believe who she was. The words hit harder than the reveal. Mitchell looked at Nia, at the bruise around her wrist, at the soaked papers on the ground, at the adult crowd who had watched. Then at Sloan, something in her face settled into decision.

Everyone involved stays available. Trevor scoffed. My father will hear about this. Mitchell looked at him. I expect he will.

Sloan tried again. Rebecca, no. One word. Final. Mitchell handed the coin back to Naomi.

Naomi closed her fingers around it. The metal was cold from the rain. For years, it had reminded her who she was when nobody else cared to know. Now suddenly, everyone cared. And she hated that.

Because Nia had been telling the truth before the coin touched the ground. The evidence had existed before Naomi's name meant anything to Mitchell. The bruise had been real before prestige entered the courtyard. Mitchell looked toward the athletic center. Get me the original files.

One of the administrators hurried inside. Sloan remained where he was. Pale. Silent. Watching the door.

And as Naomi slipped the challenge coin back into her battered EMT bag, Nia realized the power in the courtyard had already started to reverse. Not because the truth had changed. Because at last, somebody with authority had decided to preserve it. The first security file arrived 23 minutes later. By then, Wellington's conference room had filled with a strange kind of silence.

Not the silence of people refusing to help. A different one. The silence that comes when everyone knows a recording is about to decide which version of reality survives. Rain streaked the tall windows overlooking the athletic center. Nia sat at one end of the polished table with Naomi beside her.

Trevor sat across from them. Ryan and Derek were separated by two empty chairs. Madison held her phone in both hands but had stopped looking at it. Ashley sat farthest from the group. Dean Sloan stood near the window.

Dr. Rebecca Mitchell remained at the head of the table. A campus IT administrator connected a laptop to the wall monitor. We have the original security feed from the athletic center corridor, he said. Mitchell nodded. Play it from five minutes before the incident.

The screen lit up. There was Nia walking alone. Then Ryan stepped into her path. Trevor appeared behind him. Madison raised her phone.

Derek moved toward the exit. Ashley stayed back. Nobody spoke in the conference room. On the screen Ryan bumped Nia's shoulder. Once.

Then again. Nia turned to leave. Derek blocked her path. Ryan moved closer. Nia pushed his forearm away.

The exact moment Madison had posted. Except now it had a beginning. And beginnings changed everything. Mitchell paused the video. She looked at Sloan.

This is what you reviewed before suspending her. Sloan's jaw tightened. The clip submitted to my office did not include this angle. That wasn't my question. He looked toward the screen.
