She was crying.

“I think you need to see something.”

She handed him her phone.

The private cheer chat contained the entire escalation.

Lauren complaining about losing captaincy.

Lauren calling Naomi protected.

Lauren predicting she would lose control.

Then messages from the day before the confrontation.

I’m done letting her hide behind teachers.

Kara replied, Just leave it. Graduation is almost here.

Lauren answered, No. She needs to say it to my face.

Later:

We’ll talk after Advisory tomorrow.

Madison had written, Don’t do anything stupid.

Lauren responded, I just want her without an audience for once.

That sentence changed everything.

The school interviewed Madison.

She admitted Lauren knew Naomi had Advisory Council Tuesday afternoon because schedules were public.

Kara knew too.

The bathroom encounter had not happened by chance.

Another piece of evidence arrived through hallway security cameras.

The cameras could not see inside the restroom.

They could see outside.

At 3:19, Naomi entered alone.

At 3:22, Lauren and Kara approached together.

Lauren paused outside.

Kara appeared to say something.

Lauren entered.

Kara followed.

At no point had Naomi approached them.

Two minutes later, a student entered the hallway, heard shouting through the bathroom door, and immediately found Coach Ross.

That student described hearing Naomi say stop at least twice.

She also heard another voice shouting before the impact.

The evidence did not show every movement.

It did show planning, approach, violation of the no-contact order, and independent confirmation that Naomi repeatedly asked someone to stop.

Kara changed her statement during the second interview.

She admitted Lauren swung first.

Webb asked why she had lied initially.

Kara cried.

“She’s my friend.”

“That doesn’t answer the question.”

“I thought Naomi was going to get her expelled.”

“Did Naomi make Lauren approach her?”

“No.”

“Did Naomi make Lauren swing?”

“No.”

“Why did you attack Naomi?”

Kara covered her face.

“I saw Lauren on the floor.”

Webb waited.

“And?”

“I just reacted.”

“To what?”

“My friend getting hurt.”

Webb asked whether she had seen why Lauren was on the floor.

Kara nodded.

“Yes.”

“You saw Lauren attack first?”

“Yes.”

“Then you attacked the person she was attacking.”

Kara had no answer.

The physical investigation concluded within two days.
