She held a short press conference at the airfield. She did not announce that Nathan's ownership claims had been restored since the investigation was still open. She stated only what had already been confirmed. An uncertified device had been installed on the aircraft. Nathan had discovered it and issued a warning.

That warning had not been handled properly. She herself had judged him by his title and his appearance. And Nathan together with Daniel had saved the flight. I called him just a mechanic, Audrey said. The truth is today that mechanic acted with more responsibility than any executive in this room.

Nathan was not standing beside her during the statement. He was with the investigative team explaining the architecture of the system in detail. Keeping the apology separate from his presence kept it honest rather than turning it into a staged easy reconciliation. The investigation continued for 8 weeks. Investigators confirmed that Robert had secretly held shares in Meridian control systems, pressured Northstar into purchasing components above true manufacturing cost, replaced certified controllers with untested units, forged certification seals, deleted the final load test, used Audrey's digital signature without authorization to convert a taxi run into a live flight, altered document history to erase Nathan's name, falsely accused Nathan of stealing data while he was away caring for his family, and attempted to destroy evidence.

Idence while the aircraft was in danger. Robert was not arrested as a villain on the spot. He was held for questioning, then suspended while records were sealed and authorities verified the evidence. Once confirmed, he was formally charged with fraud, falsifying safety documentation, obstruction, unauthorized use of an electronic signature, and reckless endangerment of a flight. Archived records proved Nathan had authored the earliest versions of the fuel balance system.

Old internal emails confirmed he had objected to Robert's supplier years before. Flight logs verified the gravity release system had been Nathan's original design. The board restored Nathan's name to the aircraft's patent filings and acknowledged that his earlier settlement had been signed under unfair pressure. He received the equity share that should have belonged to him from the start along with compensation for years of lost income. What mattered most to him, though, was simpler than any number.

The official record now told the truth. After the preliminary investigation closed, Audrey met Nathan privately inside the hanger without press, investors, or the board present. The S12 sat behind them, its uncertified controller already removed. Audrey offered a second apology. This one personal rather than corporate.

She admitted she had looked at his coveralls and assumed they explained the full extent of what he was capable of. Even if I really had been just a mechanic, Nathan said, "You still should have checked the warning. " The line mattered. Nathan did not want respect only because he turned out to be a brilliant engineer. He wanted every employee to be heard when they brought forward evidence about safety. Audrey agreed.
