“Relax.”
Jordan stared at the trash.
“You dumped a garbage barrel on me.”
“It slipped.”
Brooke laughed.
Jordan nodded.
“Okay.”
She turned away.
That should have been the end.
Savannah’s smile disappeared.
“Where are you going?”
Jordan kept walking.
“I’m talking to you.”
She stopped.
Slowly.
Then turned around.
“You’ve been ordered not to talk to me.”
Savannah stepped closer.
“What are you going to do?”
Jordan did not answer.
“Report me?”
“Yes.”
The word came immediately.
Students nearby reacted.
Savannah’s face hardened.
“You have absolutely no shame.”
Jordan almost laughed.
“About what?”
“Ruining people’s lives.”
Jordan looked at the trash around her.
“You just dumped garbage on me.”
“You’ve been trying to get me thrown out all year.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“You keep doing things.”
Jordan’s voice remained quiet.
“Then getting angry because somebody records what you did.”
Brooke stopped smiling.
Savannah moved closer.
“Say that again.”
“No.”
Jordan turned to leave.
Savannah grabbed the back of her jacket near the shoulder.
Jordan spun and knocked the hand away.
“Do not touch me.”
“You think you’re tough now?”
“No.”
Jordan stepped backward.
“I think you need to leave me alone.”
Savannah reached forward.
Jordan caught her wrist and pushed it aside.
Not a punch.
Not a twist.
Distance.
“Stop.”
Brooke moved behind Savannah.
“Take your hands off her.”
Jordan looked at Brooke.
“She grabbed me.”
Savannah laughed.
“Always the victim.”
Jordan shook her head.
“I’m leaving.”
She moved around them.
Brooke grabbed her upper arm.
Jordan pulled away.
“Brooke.”
“What?”
“Don’t.”
Brooke shoved her.
Jordan stumbled one step.
Students shouted.
A phone rose near the edge of Jordan’s vision.
Then Brooke swung.
