On April 17, 2024, officers responded to a neighborhood complaint involving Nicole, a juvenile whom several people at the scene said police had dealt with repeatedly. The immediate allegation was that Nicole had threatened a nearby five-year-old child, while adults in the neighborhood said earlier incidents had involved knives, family conflicts, and repeated warnings to stay away from the block. What followed was a tense attempt by officers to separate what they could legally act on that day from the broader history everyone around them wanted addressed. I ain't doing that. I did go after.

I did. Uhhuh. I walked, but she didn't she ain't stopped. I didn't put my hands on her. Okay.

But my son come. I was cooking. Mhm. My son come and told me that she's back. That girl told you she was just stabbing.

Tell her exactly what she told me. How you tell a 5-year-old you going to stab me? That crazy girl from. She said she was going to stab me, but I would tell my mom. And then my mom said, How she going to stab me?

And are you okay? Okay. She's actually getting coming after the kids now. This needs to be stopped. Is there any paperwork that y'all can. y'all can do without me going to the courthouse to put a restraining order on her?

No, with restraining order, you have to go to the courthouse. Um, what about a stay away? I can't. So, so, so, so here's here's what what I can do. Has she came on your property or is or is always in the street?

It's always in the street. She ain't stupid enough to come in the property. Okay, that's the thing. Okay. But what I mean, he's five.

How do you Come on. She is grown. Yeah. Yeah. Um, what I can do. and just a few weeks ago, she stabbed her little brother.

So, what do you think she's going to And they just arrested her during the week last week for a knife. She lives over there. No, she lives on the other block, but they arrested her on the corner over there with a knife in her hand. Okay. And what's her name?

The officer asked for the juvenile's name and confirmed that the complaint involved Nicole, someone police had dealt with before. Okay. So So it's her. Okay. Okay.

Um. y'all back here for her all the time. People at the scene told the officer Nicole had ongoing behavioral and mental-health concerns. The officer acknowledged that history without treating it as a legal conclusion. But I Yeah. I ain't saying nothing that. she have her little brother.

What do you think she will do to a kid that she doesn't know? An officer noted that a change in the law was expected to take effect around April 20, while this incident was occurring on April 17. Had you went to the courthouse yet to to to get a restraining order? I don't know her last name to be able to get a restraining order. I don't know the exact spelling or anything.

I just know her name is Nicole. Mhm. The next step I'll go I'll go talk to her and her mama. um trying to get her to understand what's going on. Once she get even a peep talk or whatever, going to get her arrested with her not come on your property, it's not much I can do. But with me talking to her, I'll give her a warning.

Let her know I come out here again. How many warnings y'all done gave this girl and she is get a restraining order. That's the That's That's the That's the best. If she comes down here and harasses anybody, then she goes to jail, right? Because what she does after y'all going to leave?

Uh-huh. She's going to go in front of my house. Mhm. And talk crap. Okay.

And if I come outside and beat the crap out of her, then I'm going to go to jail. Where do you live at? 149. That's where you were going. Where that little red SUV is.

But she'll go in front of my house and talk crap. But if I get on the road and beat her up, then I go to jail for hitting a juvenile. And she keeps saying that you can't touch me because I'm a juvenile. You can't touch me because I'm a juvenile. She knows that she could get away with it.

That's why she keeps doing it. We going to put it into it as much as we can. But you but you need to get a restraint on her because her parents, Lord knows. So her mom always working. She's staying with Lord knows who.

They ain't watching her. And she not she not a watching. Yeah. She's not in school. She not doing nothing.

I'll talk to her mama. I'll talk to her. I'll let her know if I find you back in front of front of your property. Then we'll go from there. Okay.

Yeah. I'm tired of dealing with it. Like my next step is she's going to my kids. And I told her that you're going to my kids. Yeah.

I cussed. I ain't going to lie. You with my kids. That's my babies. Yeah.

Yeah. That I have to protect them because they don't have a daddy. Yeah. I have to protect them. So you saying all this, I have to come after you now.

I'm going to go get a case number for you and I'm going to go over there to the house and see if I can find her. All I do is walk on. After speaking with the complaining family, the officer went to find Nicole and her mother. Give me a minute, Nicole. This ain't the first complaint we get.
