“She went in there herself.”
Kelsey turned.
“What?”
Brooke ignored her.
“She was angry and went inside.”
Avery stared.
“You shoved me.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“You locked the door.”
Brooke’s voice rose.
“I was joking.”
Theodore finally looked at her.
That was enough to make Brooke stop.
Dr. Wexler stepped between them.
“We need to slow this down.”
Theodore nodded.
“I agree.”
Her expression relaxed slightly.
Then he continued.
“Preserve every camera recording in this building.”
Patricia blinked.
“Theodore—”
“Every hallway.”
“Every entrance.”
“Every gym camera.”
“Every device connected to school security.”
His attorney, Elaine Foster, had already taken out her phone.
Patricia’s expression tightened.
“This is a school disciplinary matter.”
Theodore looked at Avery’s hands.
“No.”
Then at the barricaded door.
“It is at minimum a safety incident involving a minor.”
The word minor changed the room.
Coach Mercer looked sick.
Brooke crossed her arms.
“My father is coming.”
Theodore nodded.
“He should.”
No threat.
No sarcasm.
That calm unsettled her.
The school nurse examined Avery.
No fractures.
Bruising on one hip.
A scraped elbow.
Tenderness in her shoulder.
Mostly fear.
Theodore stayed beside her while Renee raced from work.
Before she arrived, Dr. Wexler asked Avery whether she would provide a statement.
Avery said yes.
Theodore interrupted only once.
“She gives it with her mother present.”
Patricia nodded.
That was reasonable.
Outside the nurse’s office, the school began trying to understand what everyone already knew.
Students had filmed part of it.
Security cameras covered the corridor.
Coach Mercer had witnessed the push.
Several girls heard Brooke tell Avery nobody would come.
Two students saw the mop handle placed through the door.
This was not going to become a situation where adults argued that teenagers remembered things differently.
There was video.
The first student clip reached social media before Renee reached campus.
DONOR GIRL LOCKS SCHOLARSHIP STUDENT IN SCHOOL STORAGE ROOM
Nobody knew about Theodore yet.
Then a second clip appeared.
It showed three black SUVs arriving.
It showed Theodore entering.
It showed Avery emerging from the room and calling him Granddad.
The internet did what it always did.
It simplified everything.
BULLY PICKS THE WRONG GIRL.
MILLIONAIRE GRANDFATHER DESTROYS ELITE SCHOOL.
DONOR DAUGHTER HUMILIATED AFTER SECRET HEIRESS REVEAL.
Avery hated every version.
Because she was not a secret heiress pretending to be poor.
She was a student.
And Brooke had locked her in a room believing a scholarship made her safe to humiliate.
