The horses became restless, stomping nervously inside their stalls. Before Ethan could reach the stable, he heard something unexpected. A gentle melody drifted through the storm. The woman stood among the frightened horses, singing a quiet song that echoed softly through the wooden barn. Her voice carried calm and warmth, and one by one the anxious animals settled.

Even the oldest stallion, known for becoming nervous during storms, lowered his head peacefully. Ethan stood in the doorway, listening without interrupting. When the song ended, silence filled the stable once again. The woman turned toward him. "My mother used to sing this whenever storms came." she said.

Ethan smiled warmly. "It seems the horses remember it now, too." For the first time since leaving Red Creek, the ranch no longer felt like a place occupied by two strangers. It was slowly becoming a home built not on words, but on trust, respect, and simple acts of kindness. Yet, one mystery still remained.

Every morning, she greeted the sunrise wearing the same veil, and every evening she carefully folded it beside her bed before sleeping, as though it carried a story that she was not yet ready to tell. Nearly a month had passed since the woman arrived at Ethan Morgan's ranch. The quiet rhythm of daily life had become familiar. Each morning began with the rising sun over the hills, and each evening ended with the warm glow of the fireplace inside the small ranch house. Although they still spoke only when necessary, an unspoken trust had grown between them.

Yet, one mystery remained. Every day, before stepping outside, the woman carefully placed the cream-colored veil over her face. She wore it while tending the garden, feeding the horses, and walking beside Ethan through the fields. She never allowed the wind or rain to uncover it, and Ethan never asked why. He believed everyone deserved the chance to share their story in their own time.

One afternoon, dark clouds rolled across the valley much faster than anyone expected. A powerful wind swept over the ranch, bending the tall grass and sending dry leaves spinning through the air. "We should bring the horses inside." Ethan called. The woman nodded, and together they hurried toward the pasture.

The horses sensed the approaching storm and began running across the field. Ethan carefully guided the older animals toward the stable while the woman calmly led the younger horses through the open gate. Just as the last horse entered the barn, a sudden gust of wind rushed through the valley. The woman's veil lifted into the air. She reached for it, but the wind carried it beyond the fence and across the open field until it disappeared among the cottonwood trees.

For a long moment, neither of them moved. The woman slowly lowered her hands. She closed her eyes as if accepting something she had prepared for long ago. When she finally looked at Ethan, her face was no longer hidden. He did not see the terrible scars the townspeople had imagined.
