My Wife Said I Was Jealous of Her Gym Coach — Nine Months Later, I Found Him in Our Bedroom

Chapter 1: The Life We Thought We Had

If you had asked me three years ago whether my marriage was happy, I would have answered before you finished the question.

Yes.

My name is Nathan Brooks. I was forty-four when this happened, and my wife, Melissa, was thirty-nine. We had been married for eleven years, had no children despite years of trying, and lived in a comfortable two-bedroom condo in a middle-class neighborhood where the security guards knew every resident by name.

We were not glamorous people.

We liked Friday pizza, long television marathons, weekend grocery runs, and making fun of each other for ordering dessert after saying we were full. For most of our marriage, both of us were overweight, and neither cared very much because we were overweight together. I was around 255 pounds at my heaviest, while Melissa was somewhere around 180.

Then a routine medical exam scared the hell out of me.

My bloodwork showed several warning signs. Diabetes ran in my family, so did high blood pressure, and my doctor told me I was heading toward problems that would become much harder to reverse once they arrived.

I went home shaken.

Melissa listened while I explained everything.

Then she reached across the kitchen table and said, “We’ll fix it together.”

That sentence meant a lot to me.

And for almost two years, we did exactly that.

We changed what we ate, started walking, joined a gym, and eventually reached the point where exercising became part of our daily routine instead of something we forced ourselves to do. I lost nearly seventy pounds, Melissa lost a little over forty, and suddenly we were buying clothes in sizes neither of us had worn since college.

I felt healthier than I had in twenty years.

Melissa looked incredible.

And I was proud of her.

Maybe too proud to notice what else was changing.

Chapter 2: Cole Hartman

The gym we joined was inside a shopping complex about fifteen minutes from our condo.

It was clean, busy, and expensive enough that most of the trainers behaved professionally because members had plenty of other options. One trainer stood out immediately.

Cole Hartman.

He was probably thirty-five, maybe thirty-six, with the kind of body that looked designed for fitness advertisements. Broad shoulders, narrow waist, shaved head, tattoos running down both arms, and an obvious awareness that people noticed him when he walked across the weight floor.

Cole knew exactly what he looked like.

He also enjoyed making sure everyone else did too.

He wore sleeveless shirts even when every other trainer wore the gym uniform, and if he thought women were watching, the shirt sometimes came off entirely while he demonstrated exercises. I caught him checking out female members more than once, usually while pretending to adjust equipment or scan the room.

I thought he was ridiculous.

Melissa thought he was ridiculous too.

At first.
