Knock. Knock. Knock. We both froze. I stood up.

"Stay here." I walked toward the door. "Who is it?" A man's voice answered, "Delivery." "At this hour?"

Silence. I looked through the peephole. No one was there. I opened the door slightly. A second envelope was lying on the floor.

I picked it up. My name was written on it. Not Linda's. My name. I closed the door immediately.

Inside was another photograph. This time, it showed my father, Linda, and me. It had been taken only a few weeks earlier. I looked at Linda. "Someone has been watching us."

Her face turned pale. Then her phone rang. It was my father. Linda answered. "Where are you?" my father asked urgently.

"At a hotel." "Listen carefully." "Don't leave that room." I immediately moved closer. "What happened?"

Linda asked. My father's voice became quieter. "Someone found the old documents." Linda looked at me. "Which documents?"

"The ones proving what happened 20 years ago." Then the call suddenly ended. We tried calling back. No answer. For several minutes, neither of us spoke.

Then Linda said something I wasn't expecting. "Your father didn't send you here just to help me catch my flight." "What do you mean?" "He knew someone might come looking for me." I felt a chill.

"So, this whole trip was planned?" She nodded. "Your father was trying to keep me safe." We stayed inside until morning. The storm finally stopped around sunrise.

Hotel security later discovered that someone had entered the building using a stolen key card. But they never found the person. When we returned home, my father was waiting at the door. Linda ran toward him. They hugged.

For the first time, I realized how much history existed between them. My father looked at me. "I'm sorry I dragged you into this." I smiled. "You didn't."

Then I held up the envelope. "You owe me the whole story." He laughed nervously. "You're definitely your mother's son."

Linda smiled. "And unfortunately, you got his stubbornness, too." We all laughed. That night had started with a simple canceled flight.

A hotel room. One bed. And an awkward situation. But it ended by revealing a secret my family had carried for 20 years.

Sometimes, the biggest mysteries aren't found in strange places. They're hidden inside the stories our families never tell us. And that night taught me something I'll never forget. When someone says there's only one bed, you never know what unexpected journey might begin with that hotel key.
