Then, because of course she would, she yanked out her phone and dialed 911. I genuinely thought I was dreaming. She had just driven an entire RV through the front of my house, and now she was calling emergency services as if she were the one in danger. When the police showed up, Karen kicked into full performance mode, like she’d spent the whole morning rehearsing in a mirror. She sprinted toward the officers, arms flailing, pointing dramatically at the wreckage lodged halfway into my living room as if she were revealing some horrific crime scene.

She launched straight into a fabricated story, insisting I had sabotaged her brakes out of pure spite. Her version claimed the RV spiraled out of control and she’d narrowly escaped death. Never mind that onlookers could clearly see she didn’t have a single scratch on her. She still clutched her chest theatrically, pretending she might collapse at any second. It would have been comical if my house hadn’t been in ruins behind her.

The officers turned their attention to me, and despite the blood trickling down my forehead, I kept my composure. I walked them through everything from start to finish, from the night she dumped the RV in my driveway to the threat she made right after I had it towed. I pulled up the texts on my phone, including that ominous “You’ll regret this” message sent mere hours before the crash. A neighbor who’d witnessed her tearing down the street at reckless speed stepped forward right away to back up my account. Another neighbor chimed in, confirming she’d heard the engine roaring just before the impact.

The officers exchanged a knowing glance. Karen’s story was falling apart at the seams. As they pressed her with more questions, her composure began to crumble. She kept contradicting herself, tripping over her own lies, and jabbing a finger at me as though that alone could erase the mountain of evidence stacked against her. Eventually, the officers announced she was being placed under arrest.

Her expression went blank, then twisted into raw panic as the handcuffs clicked shut around her wrists. She hollered that the whole neighborhood would crumble without her guidance, which only drew laughter from everyone watching. Paramedics checked me over. My injuries weren’t serious, but the officers documented everything thoroughly for the record. Karen ended up facing charges of reckless endangerment, property destruction, filing a false police report, and attempted insurance fraud.

Beyond being ordered to cover the full cost of repairing and rebuilding my home, she was also required to pay for my temporary housing throughout the entire renovation. The judge handed down jail time, stating plainly that her conduct had been reckless and utterly inexcusable. Watching her get escorted away marked the first truly peaceful moment I’d had in days.
