Someone new had stepped in. a figure whose presence alone made the entire crowd go quiet. But the moment Marina saw who it was, her breath caught in her chest. Because this wasn't a teacher, a student, or a chaperonee. It was someone she hoped wouldn't show up tonight. Someone who knew exactly what she was capable of.

Standing in the doorway, framed by the ballroom lights, was a man Marina knew instantly. broad shoulders, faded gym sweatshirt, hands wrapped in athletic tape because he always forgot to take it off after training. Her uncle Ray Cole, the one person she hoped wouldn't see any of this. He scanned the room. First the crowd of frozen students, then Dylan's crumpled posture. Then Marina's stance still half set like she was waiting for the next punch.

His eyes tightened. Marina, just her name, calm but heavy. She straightened instinctively. "Uncle Ray, what are you doing here?" Ray stepped forward, ignoring every staring student.

"Your aunt texted me," said the alarm went off and kids were running around out here like the building was on fire. "I drove over to check on you." Trevor stepped aside as Ray approached. Dylan's face twisted at the attention. He tried to stand taller, but he only looked smaller with Ray now towering a few feet away.

Ray looked at Marina again. "You all right?" She nodded slowly. "Yeah, I'm okay." Ray raised the brow.

"You sure? Because from the looks of this floor and him..." He jerked his chin toward Dylan. Something happened. Dylan's face reened.

"She... she shoved me." Ray turned to him fully. "Did she now?" The room went dead still. Brandon and Jace edged behind Dylan, suddenly realizing this wasn't a normal uncle.

This wasn't a regular adult. This was someone trained, someone who carried the weight of discipline in every movement. Dylan swallowed. "I... I didn't hit her or anything."

"You tried," Trevor called out from behind Marina. Brandon slapped Trevor's arm. "Shut up, man." Ray held up a hand. "Let him talk."

Trevor stepped forward. "He didn't just try. He swung twice. She dodged both." Murmurs spread through the room like wildfire.

Dylan snapped. "It wasn't like that." Jace chimed in weakly. "We were just messing around." Ray turned his eyes to Jace, calm, unreadable.

"Does that line ever work for you, boys?" Jay shut his mouth immediately. Ray looked at Marina again. "Did you hit him?" Marina shook her head.

"No, I didn't need to." Ray let out a long breath. Relief mixed with something like pride. "Good." Dylan's voice cracked.

"She made me fall." "You fell because you lost control," Ray replied. "I can see that from here." More whispers spread through the crowd. He lost his balance.

She barely touched him. He's the one who snapped. Dylan's jaw clenched hard. His pride was gasping for air. Ray stepped closer.

Not threatening, just firm. "Listen, son. You're angry, but anger without control, it'll bury you." "Whatever you think she did to you, I promise you did it to yourself." Dylan's chest heaved.

He wanted to argue, to yell, to blame. But every student's eyes were on him. Phones pointed his direction. Brandon and Jace refused to look at him at all. And Marina, she wasn't gloating.
