Marcus opened a second window on his laptop. My turn. He pulled up the audio visual maintenance logs. The central courtyard camera was manually placed in service mode 11 minutes before Maya was confronted. He enlarged the screen, then restored 13 minutes later.

Sophia pointed. User account? That's the problem. Marcus clicked another page. The action was submitted through a supervisor level maintenance terminal.

The user field was overwritten by a generic service account. Could that happen normally? Yes. Marcus paused. But not from that terminal without a badge login.

Sophia's eyes sharpened. Do you have the badge log? Marcus shook his head. My access was revoked before I could retrieve it. So we don't.

Not yet. Maya looked at the laptop. But we do have the fountain camera. Marcus nodded. The separate event live stream buffer.

He opened the raw footage. Again, Ryan stepped into Maya's path. Again, Chase moved behind her. Again, Emily filmed. Sophia watched silently until Daniel entered frame.

Then she said, this proves the original confrontation. Maya nodded. And that Emily edited out the threat. Yes. But it doesn't prove the leak.

No. Maya exhaled. The case felt like a wall built one brick at a time. Slow, frustrating, but solid. Sophia turned to Marcus.

What else did you bring? Marcus hesitated, then reached into his bag and pulled out a small black audio recorder. Daniel frowned. What is that? Not what you think.

Marcus set it down. AV crews use ambient recorders during event setups. Room tone, sound checks, backup reference. Where was this one? Founder's society room.

Maya's pulse quickened. When? The night before the data leak. Sophia immediately raised a hand. Before anyone gets excited.

Was this lawfully placed? Yes. By me. For a scheduled donor event setup. It was listed on the equipment sheet.

Was it recording intentionally? Automatically once powered. Did you alter the file? No. Do you have the original media?

Marcus held up a sealed memory card and metadata. Sophia leaned back. Play only the relevant section. Marcus inserted the card. Static filled the booth.

Then distant voices. Muffled. A chair scraped. Ryan. Hayes said the access trail can be redirected.

Nobody moved. A second voice. Emily. What about Marcus's backup camera? Then footsteps.

A door closed. The file continued with silence. Marcus stopped playback. Maria stared at him. That's it?

That's it. Owen looked disappointed. They don't say leak. Sophia nodded. Which is why we don't pretend they do.

Maya looked at the recorder. But Hayes knew there was an access trail. Apparently, Sophia said. And Emily knew about Marcus's backup camera. Yes.

Daniel's face had gone very still. Maya understood why. Catherine Hayes had personally overseen the investigation after he recused. If she had also been discussing how to redirect evidence. Maya stopped herself.

Suspect. Not prove. Sophia looked at Marcus. Can we authenticate the voices? Likely.

Do it. Marcus nodded. Evelyn tapped the table. There's more. She pulled out another handwritten sheet.

These are ARCA for the archive checkout signatures from the week of the leak. Emily Collins. Two entries. One listed a sealed conduct collection. The second listed a restricted student services index.

Sophia frowned. Was she authorized? Her student media credentials allowed supervised research. Supervised by whom? Evelyn looked down.

Catherine Hayes's office. The rain seemed louder. Daniel said quietly. That matters. Sophia glanced at him.

It may. She turned to Maya. What did Ryan say yesterday? Maya opened her notebook. She read the exact words.

Maria's disciplinary complaint. The emergency loan request. Then the time and location. Sophia looked at Maria. Was that emergency loan detail in the leaked files?

No. Anywhere public? No. Had you ever told Ryan? Maria's expression hardened.

I had never spoken to Ryan Whitmore in my life. Sophia wrote something. Good. Maria blinked. Good?

Legally, yes. Maya understood. Ryan had known a detail that should have remained sealed. That did not prove how he learned it. But it connected him to information outside the public breach.

Owen leaned forward. What if they say somebody told him? They can, Sophia said. Then what? Then we ask who?

The room fell quiet. That was the difference between rumor and evidence. Rumor collapsed when pressed. Evidence produced another name, another document, another timestamp. Marcus suddenly sat upright.

Wait. He was staring at his laptop. What? There's a cashed administrator log. Sophia leaned closer.

I thought you lost access. I did. This is local. He opened a directory. When I serviced the media control room last week, the system mirrored access data for troubleshooting.

His fingers moved quickly. A list populated the screen. Emily Collins, her student credentials. Archive portal access. Restricted index lookup.

Then a time. 10.06 p.m. The night of the leak. Maya looked at Evelyn. Was the archive open then?

No. Marcus kept scrolling. The request came through remote access. Sophia's voice sharpened. Authenticated?

Yes. With her credentials? Yes. Could they have been stolen? Possible.

Do we have proof they weren't? No. Again. Not enough alone. But another brick.

Marcus opened the IP history. A campus address appeared. Founder's society network. No one spoke. Then Daniel said, print it.

Marcus did. The printer near the kitchen office word to life. One page slid out. Then another. Sophia arranged everything across the scarred wooden table.

The courtyard footage. The disabled camera log. Evelyn's archive ledger. Maria's screenshots. Owen's old complaint.

Emily's authenticated access. The founder's society network connection. The partial recording. Ryan's sealed detail statement. Sophia looked at all seven people.

Individually, some of this can be explained away. Maya nodded. Put together? Sophia placed both hands on the table. Together, they corroborate.

Marcus looked at her. What exactly do we have? Sophia answered carefully. We have evidence of a deliberate attempt to distort the courtyard incident. One finger touched the camera log.

Evidence that the main security camera was intentionally disabled. Another touched the archive ledger. Evidence Emily accessed sealed files connected to prior complainants. Another. Evidence her credentials accessed restricted systems the night of the leak from the founder's society network.

Another. A recording suggesting Hayes knew an access trail could be redirected. Another. And Ryan knowing confidential information that was never publicly leaked. Maya felt something shift inside her.

Not victory. Structure. For days, the other side had controlled everything by making each event look separate. A bullying incident. A viral video.

An archive visit. A data breach. A president's daughter. A scared witness. A fired technician.
