“Company discretionary funds.”

Daniel nodded slowly.

That was the confirmation he needed.

He stepped back.

“Keep your money, sir.”

Thomas’s patience broke.

“Honestly, people like you shouldn’t even be allowed to breathe the same air as the people who work here.”

Silence spread across the plaza.

Even Victoria looked at him.

Daniel felt something inside him settle.

The experiment was over.

Before he could speak, Marcus moved forward to pull him away from the stand.

A voice came from behind the crowd.

“Not one more step toward him.”

Marcus stopped.

Employees turned.

Daniel’s mother walked through the glass doors.

She rarely appeared in the lobby without notice, which was why the sight of her created immediate confusion. Senior managers straightened. Several employees stepped aside.

Victoria’s expression transformed.

“Ma’am, we’re handling a situation.”

Daniel’s mother looked at her.

“I can see that.”

Marcus released Daniel’s arm.

Thomas quickly folded the money and tried to put it away.

She noticed.

“What are you holding?”

“Nothing important.”

“That wasn’t my question.”

Thomas hesitated.

Daniel’s mother walked closer.

Victoria attempted to recover control.

“This man has been causing problems outside the building all week. And now my bracelet is missing.”

Daniel’s mother looked at her son.

Then at Victoria.

“Did anyone see him take it?”

“No, but—”

“Then why are you calling him a thief?”

Victoria’s confidence weakened.

“Because he was standing closest to me.”

“That is not evidence.”

Marcus stepped in.

“We were going to bring him inside and sort it out.”

“By grabbing him?”

Marcus said nothing.

Daniel’s mother’s gaze moved across the gathered employees.

Then she asked the question that changed the entire morning.

“Victoria, did you know who you were speaking to just now?”

Victoria looked confused.

“No.”

Daniel finally removed the knit cap.

He wiped one hand across his beard, more tired than dramatic.

His mother stepped beside him.

“Everyone, I want you to meet my son.”

Nobody spoke.

The silence was so complete that Daniel could hear traffic beyond the plaza.

Victoria’s face lost its color.

Marcus looked from Daniel to his mother and back again.

Thomas slowly lowered the folded cash.

Grace covered her mouth.

Daniel looked around at all of them.

“I was here all week.”

His voice remained quiet.

“I saw everything.”

Victoria took a step backward.
