When Caleb and the others return to camp, they find the tribe nearly out of water. Caleb tells Red Hawk that the spring is real and that they have found the records proving someone tried to steal control of it. The tribe prepares for the journey immediately, carrying every empty container they can find. The people reach the underground chamber and see the clear water for themselves. Children drink first, followed by exhausted elders.
The site changes the atmosphere completely. Hope returns to the camp, but Caleb knows the danger has only grown. Silas escaped during the confusion and he will not surrender easily. That night, Mara studies the recovered journal and discovers one final entry written by Caleb's father. It says that if the spring is ever found, the truth must be taken beyond the canyon before powerful men can bury it again.
Caleb realizes his father expected someone to finish what he started. Before sunrise, a distant gunshot echoes across the valley. A lookout rushes into camp with terrifying news. Silus Boon has gathered more armed men and is returning. This time he is not coming for the map alone.
He intends to destroy the spring completely rather than allow anyone else to control it. Red Hawk looks toward Caleb and asks what they will do. Caleb grips his rifle and answers that they will protect the water and expose the truth no matter what it costs. The final fight is coming. Silus Boon reaches the canyon before sunrise with a larger group of armed riders.
He believes the tribe is too weak to resist and expects Caleb to surrender the records. Instead, Red Hawk positions his people around the canyon entrance while Caleb and Mara protect the evidence. Silas shouts that the spring belongs to him, but Caleb answers that no man owns water that can save hundreds of lives. Silas orders his men to attack. Gunfire echoes across the rocks as Red Hawks fighters defend the canyon from higher ground.
Caleb refuses to waste time chasing the attackers. He knows Silas has brought more than weapons. Several riders carry oil, explosives, and heavy tools. Their real plan is to destroy the spring if they cannot control it. Mara spots the men moving toward a second entrance and warns Caleb.
They race through the underground passage while Red Hawk keeps the attackers away from the main opening. Deep below the canyon, Caleb reaches the spring chamber and discovers that Silas's men have already placed explosives near the water channel. Caleb understands that removing the explosives may cause them to detonate. Instead, he studies the old construction around the spring. His father's notes mention a pressure gate designed to redirect underground water through another passage.
If Caleb can open it, the water might flood the chamber and push the explosives away before they explode. Mara finds the control wheels hidden behind a stone wall. Caleb turns the first wheel, but nothing happens. He turns the second and the old pipes begin shaking. The third wheel is jammed with water rising around his boots.
