When the voices move away, Caleb finds another passage behind the records. It leads toward a deep underground chamber where the sound of running water becomes unmistakable. They have finally reached the hidden spring, but the entrance is sealed by a massive iron gate. Mara notices the same family symbol engraved on the gate, while Caleb sees a second message beneath it. The water can be opened, but only by someone who carries the original map.

Caleb unfolds the map and places it against the gate. The markings align perfectly, revealing a hidden sequence. Red Hawk helps him turn three rusted wheels while Mara reads the symbols aloud from memory. The gate groans open, exposing a vast stone chamber filled with clear water. The spring rises from a natural crack beneath the rock, then flows into an old channel leading toward the surface.

Caleb understands why the landowners feared this place. The source is large enough to save the entire region. But before they can celebrate, footsteps thunder through the tunnel. The men have found them. The men are already close behind.

Silas Boon storms into the underground chamber with several armed riders behind him. He is a wealthy ranch owner who has controlled much of the nearby land for years. The moment he sees Caleb, his expression changes. He recognizes the surname and immediately understands that Caleb has discovered what his father spent years trying to expose. Silas demands the map and the documents, claiming the spring belongs to whoever has the strength to control it.

Caleb refuses. Red Hawk steps forward with his rifle ready while Mara moves closer to the records. Silas orders his men to surround them. The underground chamber becomes silent except for the steady sound of flowing water. Then one of Silas's men fires toward the ceiling, sending dust and stones crashing down around everyone.

The disturbance breaks part of an old support beam. Water suddenly bursts through a damaged section of the channel, spreading rapidly across the chamber floor. Silas shouts for his men to secure the records, but Caleb uses the confusion to grab the journal and land documents. Mara takes the map and runs toward the side passage while Red Hawk covers her escape. Silas follows Caleb into the tunnel, furious that the cowboy has taken the evidence.

He reveals that Caleb's father discovered the hidden spring years ago and tried to expose the men who had secretly controlled the water. Silas claims that Caleb's father was warned to stay silent, but refused. Caleb realizes the truth about his father's death may finally be within reach. The tunnel begins filling with water. Caleb and Silas struggle through the rising current while Red Hawk and Mara search for another exit.

Mara remembers a detail from her grandmother's story. The guardians built more than one escape route because they knew the main passage could be flooded. She finds a narrow opening behind a fallen wooden support and calls the others toward it. Caleb reaches the opening just as Silas catches up. Silas raises his weapon, but Red Hawk strikes his arm, forcing him to drop it.

Caleb could leave him behind, yet he chooses to pull Silas toward the opening. Red Hawk questions the decision, but Caleb says the evidence means nothing if they become the same kind of people they are fighting. They escape into a higher tunnel and eventually emerge on the canyon ridge. Below them, water continues rushing through the underground chamber. The hidden spring is now flowing more strongly than before, proving that the old channel can provide enough water for the tribe.
