Margaret became angry immediately. “Don’t make this about race.”
Danielle had not used the word.
That detail would later appear in witness statements. Two passengers specifically remembered it because Danielle had asked only whether Margaret would question a man dressed differently. Margaret supplied race herself.
Danielle said, “I’m not making this anything. I’m trying to go back to work.”
She moved to walk away. Margaret stepped in front of her.
That was where the video most people eventually saw began.
Margaret pointed toward Danielle’s ID. Danielle stayed still while Evan tried to calm his mother. Margaret continued questioning why somebody dressed “like she was going shopping” needed access to restricted airport areas.
Danielle answered that airport managers were not required to wear business suits to satisfy passengers. Margaret said professionalism mattered. Danielle asked whether professionalism included grabbing employees.
The first physical contact came seconds later. Margaret reached for the badge. Danielle moved back and warned her not to touch it.
Evan stepped between them partially. Margaret moved around him.
She caught the badge and the front of Danielle’s jacket. Danielle grabbed her wrist and pulled the hand away.
Margaret shouted that Danielle had assaulted her.
Danielle released immediately. “You grabbed me.”
Several witnesses said Margaret then stepped forward again. Her handbag swung from one arm as she reached toward Danielle a second time.
Danielle blocked the arm. Margaret continued pushing forward.
Danielle used one hard shove to create distance.
Margaret lost her balance. Her heels slid against the polished terminal floor, and she dropped backward onto the bench behind her.
That was the end of the physical exchange. Danielle did not advance.
She looked at Margaret, then at Evan, straightened her jacket, checked the badge, and walked toward airport security.
Margaret remained seated, visibly shocked. Evan did not chase Danielle.
He turned toward his mother and said something the nearest witness later remembered clearly.
“I told you to stop.”
Airport Police Officer Sarah Mitchell reached the area within two minutes. By then Danielle had already identified herself at the security desk and requested that the incident be documented.
Margaret gave her account first. She said an airport employee had become aggressive when asked to verify identification and had thrown her into a bench.
Danielle gave a shorter statement. She said Margaret had repeatedly grabbed her badge and clothing after being told not to touch her, then advanced again after Danielle released her wrist.
Officer Mitchell asked whether cameras covered the area. Danielle almost laughed.
“Every angle.”
The airport’s terminal security system had recorded the entire sequence. One camera captured Margaret seeing Danielle enter the restricted corridor. Another followed Margaret as she turned away from her gate and walked back toward Danielle.
A third recorded the confrontation from above. Two passenger videos captured the close interaction with clearer audio.
Investigators reviewed everything before the plane to Denver even finished boarding. Margaret did not make the flight.
Neither did Evan. He chose to remain while officers completed interviews.
