Her sister tried one last angle. She says Connor is just a friend, that you made it something ugly. I replied calmly. It was not about Connor. It was about being told where I sleep in my own house.

That seemed to land. The sister exhaled. She said Layla thought you would cool off. I said I am not heated. Another pause.

Then the question I was waiting for. Is there any chance you would talk to her? I said no, not maybe, not later, no. Her sister nodded slowly. I will tell her.

I added one more thing before she walked away. Please tell her not to send people to my house. This is over. She gave a small nod and left. I checked the camera feed as she got into her car.

No Connor this time. Just her. That told me something too. By Monday morning, I had already removed her from the shared streaming accounts, changed the Wi-Fi password, and updated my emergency contact at work. Again, not dramatic, administrative.

I expected anger next. What I did not expect was begging. The begging started Tuesday afternoon. Not from her number, from an email. Subject line just said please.

I almost deleted it without opening it. I did open it. It was long, structured like an argument brief. She said she had been overwhelmed. That Connor had manipulated the situation.

That she felt pressured to prove she was a good friend. That she panicked when I pushed back. Then she shifted. She said she felt unsafe in the relationship because I ended things too quickly. That part stood out.

Unsafe. Because I refused to take the couch in my own house. I read the whole message once, slowly. Not one sentence said I should not have told you to leave. Not one sentence said I crossed a line offering your bedroom.

It was all framed as stress, miscommunication, pressure. Then the line that explained everything. I did not think you would actually choose yourself over me. There it was. That was the miscalculation.

I did not respond. Instead, I created a rule in my email filters and sent anything from her address straight to the archive. Around 7:00 p.m., there was another knock at the door. I checked the camera. It was her, alone.

No makeup. Hair tied back. Not polished. Not combative. I did not open the door.

She stood there for almost a full minute before speaking toward the camera. Aaron, I know you can hear me. I stayed silent. She said I am sorry. That was new.

She said I should not have told you to take the couch. I should have asked. I messed up. It was the first direct acknowledgement of the actual issue. But then she followed it.
