Cecilia looked down at her nieces. Zuri was talking already fast, the whole thing out of order at volume. Immani was holding the white box with both hands and looking at the floor. Cecilia crouched down on the tile in the arrivals hall in her good coat and put her hand on the side of Ammani's face. "Okay," she said.
"Okay, car's outside. We're going home." Ada Hail got the call at 9:20 that night. She was at the hospital. She stepped into a supply room because that's where you take calls.
The woman from Kestrel Air's customer care escalation team was named Priya and was extremely good at her job, which meant she led with the only three words that mattered. They're both fine. Adise said, "What? Ms. Hail, your daughters are safe. They're with their aunt.
Nobody was hurt. I need to tell you what happened on the flight, and I need you to hear the safe part first." Ad put her back against a shelf of saline bags. Priya told her. She told her accurately and completely and without softening it because Kestrelair's escalation training was actually good and because Priya had read the 17 statements and had a sense of what this was.
AD listened without saying anything for 4 minutes. Then she said she touched Imani. Incidental contact. Yes. On the hand.
It's on camera. She put her hand on my 9-year-old. Yes. Adazi Hail stood in a supply room at 9:24 at night and felt something she had not felt in a very long time. Not grief, not fear, something with a much lower center of gravity.
Is she arrested? She was removed by airport police and detained for questioning. I don't have anything beyond that yet. Okay, Miss Hail, I want to tell you two other things. First, the crew member who intervened stopped it inside about 90 seconds and then took 11 witness statements.
She was extremely thorough. Whatever happens next, the documentation on this is unusually strong. Okay. Second, Priya paused. There was a second slice of cake.
